Summary/Abstract: The classical definition of metaphor by Aristotle, though imperfect, survived manycenturies. However, in 1980 the book of Mark Johnson and George Lakoff, Metaphors WeLive By, has changed the view of metaphor and its role in the communication and poetics.One-shot metaphor, in the terminology of Lakoff, is a metaphor for single use which mostoften relates to the language of poetry. Poetry as a discourse is inherently subjective andhighly creative and therefore, without any restrictions, may represent unique and surprisingimages, that are unusual in the everyday communication. In the cycle of poems Небесныестропы by Inna Lisnianskaya we are dealing with a creative combination of two metaphorsLIFE IS A JOURNEY and MOVEMENT IS A CHANGE, where Lisnianskaya also used the picture ofthe angels hanging on the ropes in order to depict a man struggling with a number of culturaland emotional dependences.
