Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with the first complete Bible translations into the Scandinavian languages and with the socio-cultural impact of these. Using the comparative method and making use of the research results of linguistic disciplines like language history and sociolinguistics, but also of other disciplines like history and cultural history, we try the prove that, in spite of the similarities of the Scandinavian languages, the different historical-political circumstances lead to differing evolution of the national languages, and implicitly of the national cultures. In this context, the translation of the Bible into the national languages at different point in time turned out to be decisive.
