Summary/Abstract: The article presents one of the most popular trends of today Thomism, especially in the English speaking world – Analytical Thomism which views Thomistic corpus from the point of view of language analysis. The article deals with the methodology of the history of philosophy, recommending “rational reconstruction” as the proper way to ask Middle Ages philosophers questions of our concern. While dealing with the historical matters, methods and results of the analysis strive to enrich contemporary philosophical thought. Analytical Thomism defines its own methodology as the analytical philosophy of language. The article gives proper characteristics of the analytical method as applied to questions and problems of human linguistic activity. In presenting the notion of the analytical philosophy as the philosophy of language, the historical survey of the place of language as an instrument and an object of philosophy is made. Today the philosophy of language is one of the most important part not only of the Late Medieval philosophy studies but of Thomistic studies as well. In Thomas Aquinas, the methodological primacy of logic over metaphysics was known as Aristotelian legacy and can be shown in some texts of his Commentary of Metaphysics. In discussing the relationship between logic and ontology reference is made to the M.Dummett’s theories. The article makes an Assumption that in Thomas Aquinas the questions of the theory of language can be investigated according to contemporal analytical methods.
