Summary/Abstract: There are considered the problems of the French enlightenment and its universal meaning in the given article. In essence superiority in enlightenment sphere belongs to French people. It is possible to call Frenchmen as the classics of enlightenment, and the French educational literature as the classics of the educational literature. The French enlightenment had also revolutionary character; therefore it has turned to the main ideological source in development of national cultures of all nations of the world.
