Summary/Abstract: The knowledge about the research instruments which make up the methodology of management science, together with the ability to select and use them properly, continues to play a crucial role, not only in academic surveys, but also in the decision-making of managers. The application of a specific method in a given situation affects the quality of research results, and defines the boundaries of knowledge explored in the organisation’s reality. Scientific reflection is therefore important when measuring the possibility of using specific methods under certain conditions. The primary goal of this study was to present a method that is relatively unknown in Poland – Participatory Action Research (PAR), which is based on the idea of cooperative research. To examine both the opportunities and limitations of cooperative research, I present an attempt to apply this approach to assess non-governmental organisations.
