Summary/Abstract: A stable world does not exist – speed, variability and chaos are the parameters of the contemporary environment in which organizations operate. The matter of flexibility and adaptability of the adopted solutions seems to be important. There are fundamental changes undergoing in the concept of competition. It becomes a challenge to build a competitive advantage that should provide the organization something more than just a momentary success, however, making it durable seems almost impossible. The aim of this paper is to determine the directions of the research in the area of competitive advantage in management sciences. A review of the Polish and world literature was used as a research method. Summing up the results of the research it should be noted that currently we can say about the “erosion” of the current approach to the concept of competitive advantage. The problem of choosing the method of competition is not the only problem that comes to the fore. The durability of the assumptions adopted becomes important too.It seems in further research it is not only important to examine the type of competitive advantage, but it is important how to build and maintain.
