A Radiography of Social Services and Benefits offered in Giurgiu County

Summary/Abstract: Giurgiu County is one of the most important Romanian harbours at the Danube River and an important border crossing point as well as for passenger and freight traffic. The County’s population represents approximately 1.3% of the Romanian population. The aim of the study was to perform an analysis of existing social services and benefits in Giurgiu County in order to improve its distribution and functioning. The study included a document analysis (searches, reports, analyses, legislation) undertaken in GiurgiuSocial Work and Child Protection General Department, Giurgiu Social Work Direction and in Greaca Village Town Hall, and a focus group attended by specialists involved in social work activities developed in Giurgiu County. The study’s results provide information regarding the social benefits and services offered by the above-mentioned institutions, as well as recommendations/courses of actions regarding the improvement of organization and supply. There have been identified issues regarding the professionals, the coverage of community needs and also there have been made recommendations for their resolution.
