Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the still little-recognized work of one of the most important precursors of Polish twentieth-century literature. This wellknownand internationally respected writer both constructed as well as deconstructed to great effect a literary world and its characters. The work of Stanisław Wolanda, including, above all, his canonical collection of short stories "The Secret of Waldemar Jondek’s Socks" have had a significant, though still too little analyzed influence on other writers, “remaining today”, as the author writes, “a canonical source ofinformation about Polish culture and language.”
