Summary/Abstract: Cultural heritage is an element of local identity, social capital building, which is gaining importance in the development processes, as an endogenous factor. Heritage management thus becomes part of the local development management and implementation of sustainable development, as well as an area of stakeholders co-operation. The significance of the territorial capital, innovation, integration and social participation is very important in the process of heritage management. The paper indicates how heritage fits into the concept and principles of sustainable development. The article presents also, in which programming documents the management of heritage (program of monument protection, development strategy or cultural heritage management strategy) may be included. Narol commune is presented as a case study.
