Summary/Abstract: The goal of the paper is a kind of inventory of selected trends in the global economy in the years 1946–2016. The subject of the elaboration is connected with four issues: population change, technical progress, some structural changes and threats for environment combined with its protection. During the indicated period the pace and scale of the increase of world’s population were larger than in the entire development of our civilization. The IT revolution, the third technical revolution (including transport), the creation and dissemination of television, have become factors of increasing uniformity on the world market, among others through the dissemination of consumption patterns. The reliability of the connections between financial institutions allowed to achieve an international mobility of capital impossible to imagine a few decades before. In parallel we observe an increased importance of developing countries in the global economy. A global ecological crisis becomes more and more important, which results in the development of international environment protection. It engaged governments and international organizations. One of the results of their activities is Paris Agreement in 2015, which will hopefully stop climate change.
