Summary/Abstract: This piece pays tribute to Jean-Jacques Wunenburger and to his contribution to educational studies. Our purpose is to explore Wunenburger’s understanding of education as a “metamorphosis of the soul”, while debating at the same time he importance of imagination in the development of the human being (Bildung). Finally, our goal is to discuss the relation between imagination and educational rationality and to make this debate better known to the field of Educational Sciences, and more specifically to the discipline Philosophy of Education.
