Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at providing a preliminary description of some repetitive constructions (also called “syntactic reduplications”) occurring in Polish texts, such as (A) {Zdążymy, zdążymy} ‘Oh yes, we’ll catch it’, lit.: We’ll catch, we’ll catch; (B) {Śpij, śpij} ‘Sleep, sleep’, (C) {daleki, daleki spacer} ‘a long, long walk’, (D) {(Ciągle) pada, pada…(i pada)} ‘It’s (still) raining, raining… (and raining)’, The Polish phrases are viewed against the background of examples from English and Russian. The main intention is to distinguish the repetitions which are separate, “iterating operational units of language” (they are mostly idiosyncratic), from those that are based on a more general, perhaps universal rules (such repetitions have their analogue in other languages). However, accurate extraction of appropriate units of language is impossible without detailed analysis.
