Summary/Abstract: The author elaborates on the forms of charity organised by the Catholic Church in Europe over centuries. What is presented first is a synthetic outline of Christian charity, which is followed by a depiction of the forms of charity found in pastoral work. Next, the author recognises running hospitals and nursing homes as well as hospital orders as special forms of charity.
