Summary/Abstract: The reviewed book, The Evolution of the Political Institutions of the Romanian State from 1859 until now, written by four appreciated academics from Craiova, is considered necessary for understanding the mechanism of power and the institutions through which the state exercise its power. It is relevant the way in which the authors capture the continuities and the fractures manifested in the functioning of the first-rate political institutions during the entire modern period of development in Romania. When our country tries to find its way to a new identity in the European Union, the lessons given by history must not be ignored.
