Summary/Abstract: “Was there an European Neobyzantinism?”, a first answer would be given by the existence of a neobyzantine architecture in the Balkan countries: Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, where the major political events were supported by the Orthodox Church. Also sporadic buildings of this type were built in Russia, France, Spain and Denmark as a result of regional movements. Since neobyzantinism is a feature of the religious architecture in the geographical area of Balkan Peninsula and in the center of Europe, the style is best represented. The occurrence is related, as in the Romanian area, to the movement for liberation of people, of nationalism, to the restoration of historic buildings, to the generation of architects who returned to their countries will contribute to the modernization of cities and not least on account of modernism.
