Summary/Abstract: The authors of the publication, engaged in teaching activities over a period of ten years at the Vilnius Pedagogical University and different schools of art in Vilnius, present and sum up their experience in the sphere of educational work at Lithuanian museums. The greatest attention is paid to the programs on art cognition and those presenting contemporary art. Their character, methods and directions of activities can he applied while working out concept of the museum of modern art. The analysis is based on the publications of Lithuanian museum professionals, as well as on their verbally expressed ideas, methodical material and visual archives. A thorough review of educational programs at Lithuanian national museums is followed by the formulation of the major problems such as time, teacher, the frequency of visits, continuity of programs, as well as by the suggestions for their solution. Some contemporary art projects in Vilnius are presented as prospective: Gediminas and Nomeda Urbonas' "tvvv.plotas", Laima Kreivytė's "Identification", Algis Lankelis' contemporary art projects and others related to museum activities with clear principles of educational programs. Some of the ideas expressed by these projects (decentralization, universality, commercialism) could he developed in the future. In the authors' opinion, educational activities at a museum of modern art should be more universal and versatile.
