DOĞU TÜRKÇESİNDE EVLİYA TEZKİRELERİ
MEMORIAL OF THE SAINTS (TADHKIRAT AL-AULIYA) IN THE EASTERN TURKISH LANGUAGE

Summary/Abstract: The definition of tadhkirat (memorial) has been made in our study. Furthermore, information as to the meaning of the word has been provided and the usage thereof in the public has been mentioned. It has been focused on why usage of tadhkirat (memorial) is not so common within our geography although this type has been transferred to our literature from the eastern Turkish language. We found that this is based on numerous reasons however the most important reason was that Persian language was very popular in that era and the Turkish authors used to pen the works thereof in the Persian language. Briefly, the impact of Ali-Shir Nava'i on the Turkish literature and memorial of the saints (tadhkirat al-auliya) was emphasized in our study. Information was provided about the life of Muhammad Siddiq Rushdie who has written the most voluminous memorial of the saints (tadhkirat al-auliya) by using the Eastern Turkish language after Ali-Shir Nava'i. Information was furnished as his works. We, in general, compared the common and different sides of the works of two important memorial writers. As a result of the comparison we found that work of Ali-Shir Nava'i contained shorter and more accurate information while Muhammad Siddiq Rushdie’s work mostly comprised legends and sapient events as well as the extraordinary occurrences which took place during and after the moment of death of saints (auliya). In the conclusion section, issues regarding the lack of studies on memorial of the saints (tadhkirat alauliya) in the eastern Turkish language, the need of making such studies more and in particular bringing such works to light and comparing them with each other and the fact that studies realized in this way would be an invaluable resource were focused on.
