Summary/Abstract: The contemporary macroeconomic environment is characterized by the dynamism and the uncertainty of the behavior of the factors in it. This environment requires the contemporary organization to seek new approaches to management, to strive for efficient use of the available resources in order to achieve sustainable competitive advantages. Besides, the competitive advantage is no longer considered only in relation to the material assets of the organization, but mostly in relation to the intangible ones. Nowadays, the organization puts great emphasis on the human resource and its effective synchronization with the overall organizational strategy. In other words, presently the sustainable strategic advantage depends primarily on the effective human resource management within the organization. What is essential for the organizational viability is the ability of the human resource management systems to attract, develop, motivate and retain employees. In this context, the article examines a current organizational issue related to human resource management, namely the career development management. It is presumed that the career development management is a process consisting of creation of appropriate conditions for development of the individual employees' careers where the organizational needs are synchronised with the individual employees' and abilities. Based on this presumption, the responsibility of both of the subjects – the organization and the individual, are systematized
