Summary/Abstract: Efficient transport system is essential to improve social welfare while it has a significant impact not only on the economic growth but also social development. Efficient transport is understood as the one which meets the demand for movement and at the same time minimizes resources used and the negative effects of its development. The main task of transport policy is to manage the sector in such a way to maximize the benefits within minimal costs. This article aims to identify the challenges facing European transport policy and to identify areas and actions where its objectives can be achieved. It is very important to monitor and adjust the objectives to real socio-economic conditions.
