Summary/Abstract: The article verified the following hypothesis: the cause of a weaker economic position of the Eastern wall against the rest of Poland lies in its agricultural character. The verification procedure consisted of three stages. The first of these was to justify the agricultural nature of the Eastern wall against the background of the agriculture in the rest of Poland using a few selected characteristics which showed the advantage of agriculture of the Eastern wall over the rest of Poland. In the second stage of the verification procedure of the hypothesis, economic and negative effects of the agricultural nature of the Eastern wall compared to the rest of the Poland were checked, using some selected characteristics as well. The third stage of the procedure has shown negative social impacts of the agricultural nature of the Eastern wall against the background of the rest of Poland. The conclusion is the following sentence: in studied time interval (2003–2011) there were no positive effects of cohesion policy.
