Summary/Abstract: This paper is a study on NGOs and their economization process. It provides definitions of economization, and explains that NGOs undertake it because of the need of: securing own economic stability and independence from public sector. The current research on NGOs indicates that one of the most important challenges they face is future, long-term planning, which in turn is dependent on stable and diversified sources of revenues, independent from public funds and grants. One of the main issues discussed among NGOs is their economic stability and professionalization of their activities. These challenges have a lot in common with economization processes in the social economy area. The aim of the undertaken research is to evaluate if and how NGOs are ready to undertake economization process and to identify what are the resources and competences required and what are the barriers involved. The conclusions provided are based on the secondary data analysis and survey among NGOs from Gdynia.
