Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of perception of safety and security threats by the inhabitants of the Slovak Republic. The author presents the basic theoretical background of the issue as well as the results of its empirical examination carried out recently. In this context, she refers to the threats of non-military nature, such as drug dealing, organized crime and threats connected with global changes in the world, which result in natural disasters, in particular in the form of floods, which evocates the greatest fear among the citizens of the Slovak Republic in the long term. In the next part of the article, the author draws attention to the very current issue of migration and immigration, which, as indicated by the survey results, has been seen as possible security threat to Slovakia on a long term basis.
