Summary/Abstract: Strengthening the ties and communication links between academics and students in the Balkans is suggested by everyone and it is a valid one: by this means the productive and decent atmosphere created by co-operative efforts will pave the way to be able to change in more detail our perceptions of historical facts. This suggestion is of great value in considering the process of ‘rethinking’. The Common History Project of south-eastern Europe, in which Halil Berktay is included, has taken very good steps in the improvement of history textbooks in the Balkans.19 The Project initiated this process to show the deficits of history textbooks when they are read alone and they have published a book as the first outcome which will help, in particular, history teachers to realise incorrect approaches in the teaching of history. Studies within the Project continue to create a common academic language. Communication between students, teachers and academics in the Balkans is one of establishing the important dimensions of the solution. But what I want to emphasise as an essential factor is also the process of rethinking.
