Summary/Abstract: Józef Morelowski is a forgotten poet of the Enlightenment, condemned to literary oblivion. Amongst his works, readers are aware only of Lamentations on the dissolution of Poland. Other works, such as the cycle of 78 songs, were neither widely known nor read. It is interesting to reflect on what caused such a state of affairs - did the Enlightennment really assimilate poems of patriotic subject matter for itself, sentencing others to oblivion? Apart from the diversity of the subject matter, a wealth of motives and references to the literary tradition of other ages is also found in in Songs. An analysis of selected songs shows their links with the Polish cultural legacy.
