Summary/Abstract: From the standpoint of ideologists of national movements teachers as the lowest link of intellectuals were obliged to carry out the intermediary functions between different population stratums and elite representatives. These responsibilities often contradicted with the educational function of a teacher, compelling him to seek a compromise between national and professional requirements. The teacher’s choice in favor of national duties has often become a source of conflicts with a school administration and authorities in province.
