Summary/Abstract: The derivative synonyms are conjugate derivatives which have the same derivative meaning, identical or similar lexical meaning and different derivation affixes. In the present paper derivative synonyms of adjectives of modern Lithuanian are analysed. For the purpose of the present study, 1556 adjectival derivations were selected from Contemporary Lithuanian Language Dictionary and 724 ranges of synonyms were compiled. After the analysis of adjective derivations, it was proved that the suffix derivations are involved in the ranges of derivative synonyms most often: they made 1251 items. Not so frequent were ending derivations (138 items), prefix derivations (135 items) and compounds (3 items). The ranges of derivative synonyms may consist from two to five members: 642 binary, 63 trinomial, 12 four-member and 7 five-member ranges of synonyms were formed. The research showed that synonymic relations can exist among the derivatives of 53 suffixes, 3 endings and 3 prefixes. In total, 99 different combinations of derivative formants were compiled. The analysis proved that the synonymic ranges of adjectival derivatives abound in derivatives peculiar to the types of popular derivations, i. e. -inis, -ė, -iškas, -a, -ingas, -a, -uotas, -a, apy-, -okas, -a, po-, -otas, -a. According to the frequency, the ranges of derivative synonyms comprised the following order: -inis, -ė and -iškas, -a (277 synonymic ranges), -ingas, -a and -us, -i (72 synonymic ranges), apy- and -okas, -a (39 synonymic ranges), -ingas, -a and -uotas, -a (26 synonymic ranges), -uotas, -a and -inas, -a (26 synonymic ranges), etc. Furthermore, 57 single ranges of synonymic derivatives were compiled. In the present article, only the most frequent members of synonymic groups have been discussed...
