Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the system of meanings of polysemous verb of movement celt ‘to build’. To reflect relations between the basic meaning, secondary meaning and transferred meanings the space theory (developed in the cognitive linguistics framework) is used. It is essential to determine which mental space or frame is used in order to create new meanings.Mental spaces are created by frames. In their turn they are characterized by slots which are specified by space builders. Slots correspond to semantic roles, therefore distributional analysis is used. As a result, six meanings of the verb celt ‘to build’ are described.
