Summary/Abstract: The current paper is devoted to the analysis of morphological and syntactical paradigms in Latvian. Syntactical paradigms are understood as morphosyntactic realizations of the simple sentence in different personal, mood and voice forms as well as representations of structural variations of the subject or the predicate. If the morphological system of Latvian demonstrates full / defective and mixed / syncretic paradigms (in different combinations in the system of nouns, adjectives and verbs), for the syntactic paradigms only the first type is possible. Therefore, the article discusses theoretical problems of notion and interprets the readings of paradigm. Traditionally, the paradigm is understood as the object of morphology. However, following the ideas of the Prague linguistic circle the Latvian grammarians have accepted that it is possible to postulate paradigms in the syntactical level of language system as well.
