Summary/Abstract: This article presents the Ottoman Empire’s presuppositions regarding its former Byzantine Empire residents. Special attention is given to the Orthodox Church’s situation, and patriarchal rights and privileges. It also depicts the career path of the subdued Greeks in the Ottoman state.
