Salesian identity of the oratories in the light of their organizational and legal structure in the province of St. Stanislaus Kostka

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to analyse organizational and legal forms, currently used for the functioning of the oratories in the Salesian Province of Warsaw and to attempt to answer the question in what ways they help in the implementation of the Salesian charism and to what extent they can constitute a threat to the Salesian identity of the oratories. The source of this identity is the experience of Valdocco that Don Bosco gave his spiritual sons and daughters, and its guarantor is always the Salesian community. The forms of activities carried out by the oratories have evolved along with the changing needs and the socio-political situation. The new law which was implemented in Poland after the political transformation in 1989 provided the Salesians with new tools for their educational and care work. One of such tools adopted in the Province of Warsaw is establishment of associations which, on the one hand, stimulate the laity to act but, at the same time, carry the risk of excessive independence from the Salesian community and, therefore, also pose a threat to the Salesian identity of the oratories.
