Summary/Abstract: In the 1970’s, Ewa Partum produced a series of films entitled “Tautological Cinema” She concentrated on the phenomenon of “visual poetry”. Her other films were connected with “structural cinema”. “Visual poetry” project included such actions as spreading the letters of the alphabet on gallery floor. The artist believes that letters symbolise water and wind. Her first film entitled “Film by Ewa” (1973) wasn’t a documentary. She suggested that communication wasn’t possible and conceptual artists should consider the fact that their work leads toward alienation. “Structural cinema” project was connected with the “Film Form Workshop” organised in 1970. It included such films as “Encounter”, which showed sea waves, and “The Drawing on Television-set”, which showed the artist drawing images on a monitor screen. The end of her film showed a television monitor entirely covered with marker lines. The film referred to such experiments as “Found Footage Film”, and “Video Scratch”, which were based on previously produced material. In 1977, Partum organised International Festival at the Address 1 Gallery. Participants included the following artists: M. Konieczny, E. Andersen, R. Crozier, R. Filliou, M. Oleson, G. Minkoff, J. Robakowski.
