Summary/Abstract: The issues raised in the article oscillate around the characteristics of eye sight defects and diseases which constitute a significant burden on the economy and health care systems in many countries. It mentions available strategies and recommendations aimed at reducing the costs related to treatment of sight diseases and defects as well as those existing methods of prevention and treatment of eye diseases which are among the most effective and viable ones used in prophylaxis. The author makes an attempt to estimate the overall costs to the society and an individual. The article reflects also on quality evaluation within health care system.
