Summary/Abstract: This research aims at identifying, describing and analyzing aspects of the ceramic art of the eastern Aegean Sea islands - spanning from their southern part which is represented by the Rhodes island to their northern part which is the island of Lesvos – and revealing at the same time through their links with the history the very concept of Greekness. The twentieth century and particularly the interwar and postwar period, i.e. the two major eras before the termination of craft serial production, are considered the best historic time to register the concept of Greekness via the ceramic art of the area of our interest. Through this research the importance of ceramic art, which was associated with almost all aspects of life and death in these islands, is also enhanced. Tools, constructions, techniques, domestic pottery and traditional/religious ceremonies are proved to constitute the evidence of this ultimate relationship of ceramic art and the concept of Greekness in recent history of the country.
