Summary/Abstract: In May, 2009, the Ministry of Health authorised the Cardio-surgery Department in one of the university hospitals in Poznan, led by Prof. Marek Jemielity, to activate the Heart Transplantation Programme. This decision enabled the preparations for the first such procedure in a Poznan centre. The article depicts the implementation of the project.
