Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes social attitudes of Kazan citizens in the period from 2008 to 2014 taking into account the economic situation of this time. The discussion is based on the large-scale telephone surveys and focus-group interviews conducted in Kazan. The crisis of 2008 demonstrates how the economic difficulties transformed the standard patterns of thinking and reasoning by changing people’s habitual way of living. It is shown that the 2013 Summer Universiade also influenced the way the citizens perceived their lives and the environment.
