Summary/Abstract: The following article aims at proving that it is necessary to verify the assumption about the positive influence of the entry into force of the European unitary patent on the European Union and its Member States’ innovativeness. This assumption is the fundamental argument put forward by the authors of proposals of legal acts introducing the EU's unitary patent system. However, economists more and more often claim that patents not only do not stimulate innovativeness, but also may endanger it. What is more, some detailed solutions proposed by the authors of the systems mentioned above, including the translational regime and the patent’s unitary effect, may endanger innovativeness of some Member States’ economies. Therefore, the author of the article attempts to anticipate the consequences for innovations of the entry into force of the European unitary patent. Moreover, the author indicates adequate economic research strategies that can be put to use in order to deepen the analysis of the foregoing problem.
