Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the history of pedagogical education at Udmurt State Pedagogical Institute and its descendant – Udmurt State University, established on its base. The historical background, peculiarities and trends of the development of higher pedagogical education in Udmurtia in the context of the history of USPI-UdSU are analyzed. The backbone role of Kazan University as a traditional center of attraction of scientific and pedagogical forces of the Volga Region and the Cis-Ural Region is shown.
