Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the transformations suffered by the Russian messianic current during Leonid Brezhnev’s rule within the Soviet Union. The purpose of this research is to present the ideological bound created between messianism and nationalism. Its broad impact upon the Russian society lead to the birth of a new type of intellectual elite (a reborn “intelligentsia” based on the heritage of its 19th century Slavophil and Occidentalist predecessors).
