Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the specifics of formation of people’s environmental awareness on the example of the citizens of Kazan. The results of a representative survey and a series of expert interviews carried out in 2012 suggest that the vast majority of the citizens consider the problem of environmental deterioration (especially in their communities) to be highly important. We observe a growing trend for ecologization of lifestyle and leisure activities of Kazan citizens, strengthening of post-material values, and awareness of the importance and necessity of using green technologies. However, the ecological culture of the citizens has not yet passed to the action-oriented level, as the dynamics of transformation of environmental consciousness to pro-environmental activity is weak.
