Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article, prepared on the basis of author’s PhD thesis, is a partial disability to work in Polish common pension system. In the common pension system there are two degrees of disability to work: total disability and partial disability. The first one means the inability to any work at all, except for work especially adapted for seriously handicapped people. The second one means serious reductions of the ability to work with regard to applicant’s qualifications. The definition of partial disability to work isn’t clarified and leads to rise of many doubts and difficulties in practice. Even more difficulties are connected with the co called ‘training pension’ which is one of the benefits provided from the Social Insurance Fund. The regulations governing the conditions of granting and payment of the training pension are unclear and internally contradictory. The article presents author’s proposals considering the rules of recognizing the applicants for pensions as partially disabled and granting different kinds of disability pensions.
