Summary/Abstract: The articie presents the most important information regarding the Law for the protection of archival and documentary material, and the Decree for the protection of archival and documentary material adopted in Republic of Slovenia during year 2006. Decrees of ZVDAGA are in the largest part compartible with European archival practice and should assist in better protection of archival materials in Republic of Slovenia. ZVDAGA encompasses entire issues of the vocation , and some questions like realtions between private and public material, as well as electronic informations are treated for the first time in archival legislation of Slovenia.The Law from 2006. includes all types of archival material regardless of their origin or data carrier. It clearly establishes role and status of the Archive of Republic of Slovenia and other regional archives, as well as possibility of forming special archives. ZVDAGA deals with all relevant questions for protection and preservation of archival material and defines the system of efficient control over archive's work. New Law should add to further and more successful growth of archivistics in Slovenia, in accordance to the European archival practice.
