Summary/Abstract: The Hurmuzaki family records were taken by Sibiu branch of the National Archives from Ardeleana Bank (Sibiu branch) to whom the owner, Alexandru Hurmuzaki, the son of Nicolae Hurmuzaki and baroness Natalia Starcea, commended the documents before leaving Romania for good. The records offer information about the Hurmuzaki family, especially about three of it’s members – Doxaki Hurmuzaki (1782-1857), Constantin, his son (1811-1869) and Alexandru (1869-1946) his brother’s son. About Doxaki, the documents furnish details about the administration of Cernauca estate, about his relations with the Austrian authorities, to which he offered his support in managing all kind of problems, or about his career in Moldavia where in 1856, he became Mare Vornic. If the long activity of Constantin Hurmuzaki in the administrative services of Moldavia (he was Aga – Police Prefect, Mare Vornic – Minister for Internal Affairs, Minister of Justice, Interim Minister of Finance, member of the Parliament, Prime President of the Court of Appeal), is very well illustrated in the family records, the information about his private life is very scarce, with a few mentions about his studies in Austrian capital and of his career as a lawyer. Some documents about the estates who belonged to Constantin can also be found. As for Alexandru Hurmuzaki, beside the documents issued from his political activity, there are also various diplomas and other study documents and a very rich correspondence as a member of different societies and clubs. In spite of the small number of the documents which are preserved by the Sibiu branch of the National Archives, the study of the Hurmuzaki family records will give the chance to any interested researcher to enlarge his knowledge about this illustrious Moldavian family.
