Summary/Abstract: The article provides a summary of the ideas of a medieval Muslim theologist, Ibn Taymiyyah, and studies the history of addressing his ideas and the reasons for their popularity. To a large extent the teaching of Ibn Taymiyyah became widely known because of his influence on the formation of the Wahhabi movement. The popularity of Ibn Taymiyyah’s ideas in Early Modern and Contemporary History suggests timelessness of the issues considered by the theologist and the increasing role of religion in transition periods in the history of the Muslim community.
