Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is, with reference to historical sources, an analysis of the building orders of the bishops of Samogitia, Antoni Dominik Tyszkiewicz (1700–1762) and Jan Dominik Łopaciński (1708–1778), whose tenure coincided with the period when late baroque was especially popular. The sources, not yet explored in the literature, have not only corrected the already obtained data, but also provided a new historical evidence, confirmed the authorship, shed light on the consequences of the construction process of some buildings. The study of building orders of A. D. Tyszkiewicz revealed the building details of the steeple of Varniai and, moreover, the fact that the bishop hired the architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz (died 30 03 1767) to build one of his mansions, which has been unknown so far. The study of J. D. Łopaciński’s letters addressed to his brother Mikołaj Tadeusz Łopaciński (1715–1778), scribe of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, voivode of Brasta, revealed that the architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz and later Jan Wilhelm Frezer (died 01 12 1772) projected the residence of the Łopaciński family in Vilnius, the buildings of their property in Kairėnai, and coordinated the works. Both architects also renovated the Varniai Cathedral, built the Varniai Seminary and possibly contributed to the restoration of the church of Šiluva. Jan Wilhelm Frezer was assigned to project the buildings of the Krakiai manor, to prepare the project of the Vainai Chapel altar in the Vilnius Cathedral.
