Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the process of formation of the local community in a suburban area of Irkutsk, which is formed mainly in the logic of grassroots suburbanism. The research is based on the case of suburban settlements formation on the basis of a horticultural society. The author examines the suburb as a heterogeneous space existing outside the legal field and discourse of power. The massive migration from the city in this space for permanent residence leads to the formation of a great number of different types of locality. Analyzing the case of development of a permanent suburban settlement on the basis of a horticultural ("dacha") community, the author concludes that a specific mechanism of formation of the locality is appearing. It is a reflexive construction of "invisible" locality through the production ((re) development) of physical space. According to the author, "invisibility" of the examined locality and suburb as a special space is one of the most important factors of their development.
