Comparative Archival Study: Romania versus Lithuania

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to present a comparative study between two archival systems: Romanian and Lithuanian with specific common features and differences, having the public authorities specific for each country in front leading: National Archives of Romania and Office of Archivist of Lithuania. The article presents archival legislation system of both countries and most important facts of archival holdings. Even if it manages a huge archival heritage, three times bigger than the Lithuanian one, Romania through the National Archives is not yet prepared to deal in most appropriate conditions with all issues in the field and at the level of international archival science, facing with outdated archival legislation, budget cuttings, lack of staff, facilities and preserving conditions.
