Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to identify the problems of sustainable development research methodology and justification of methodological approaches to assessing sustainable development in accordance with the criteria of economic security. The essence of sustainable development in the context of economic security, analyzes the methodological approaches to the assessment of sustainable development and outlines areas of improvement based on the theory of economic security. Inconsistency of ratings regions of Ukraine in terms of sustainable development and economic security, because of the problems is found: the use of indicators to calculate the absolute statistical indicators, the use of expert estimates in determining the weighting coefficients for calculating integral parameters for individual components and indicators of sustainable development, evaluation of the institutional component of sustainable development on the basis of expert opinion. The survey results can be used to improve the evaluation method of sustainable development at the regional level and develop a ranking of Ukraine regions.
