Summary/Abstract: Attributed to the Italian poet Jacobone da Todi – a 13th century Franciscan friar –, the religious hymn Stabat Mater has been well received in the Romanian culture. The multitude of its variants, translations and remakes – justified by the fact that the text belongs to the Catholic tradition – offers the opportunity to observe the individualising stylistic elements of each Romanian version. My paper follows the history of Stabat Mater’s reception in Romanian, but it focuses on the printed versions only, since they fully convey the modalities found by various translators to render the text into Romanian. I also propose an original version of the hymn, which I worked on several years ago, but have not published until now.
