Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of changes occurring in the connotation of armed conflict from the perspective of media fulfilling their remit under different kinds of dangerous situations. The paper concerns the legal status of journalists working in contemporary international and non-international armed conflicts; differences under the basic provisions of the international humanitarian law dividing them for embedded war correspondents and other media professionals are shown. Taking into consideration that recently most of the growing number of attacks on them are happening in peace time in the frame of non international, local conflicts, which are not covered by IHL, the reinforcement of legal means of their protection as well as establish of new comprehensive instrument are to be questioned.
