Summary/Abstract: The article presents a school of Lorenzo Milani in Barbiana, oriented for children coming from negligent rural areas, disabled to achieve satisfactory results in traditional school, for those who usually abandon school and consequently become illiterate. The new concept of the school opposed the traditional school institutions, considered as a tool of power that reflects the prevailing social relations as Milani claimed. The purpose of the school in Barbiana was to eliminate conditions imposed on students from the place they came from. The focal point of Milani’s pedagogy was illiteracy and mother language learning, because the ability for expressing has got a fundamental importance in the overall process of human development, in meeting the spiritual and natural needs and to enable the integration of man in society according to a teacher from Barbiana. To gain this skills he devoted much effort. This allowed students to obtain proficiency in communicating, controlling the modern vocabulary, basic grammatical structures to facilitate the understanding of specialist terminology, and professional skills of speaking, understanding, reading and writing.
